Algebra 1 End of Year Assignment 4/23 - 5/18

Algebra 1 End of the Year Assignment
DUE DATE: FRIDAY, MAY 18TH

Objective:
The student will review the key concepts of the year, and to prepare a study guide for the final.
Materials Needed:
-YOUR TEXTBOOK
-AN ORGANIZED NOTEBOOK
-YOUR ASSIGNMENT ANSWER SHEET
-A CALCULATOR

Format:
The final assignment for Algebra 1 will consist of 11 homework sets (one per chapter) worth a total of 25 points. Unlike previous assignments during the year, these will be graded, and the student will need to meet a minimum level of proficiency (80%) in order to move onto the next topic.
Each problem set will build upon the previous one, including concepts and problems with the goal being that by the end of the four weeks, each student will have reviewed every topic that was covered in the class, and will have amassed a comprehensive review set for the final. All of the questions, on the problems sets and the quizzes (as well as the final), are multiple choice.
Each day, for the first portion of the class, I will be giving a review of what was contained in each chapter, the keys that they need to remember, and any critical notes that the student should have in order to be successful for the chapter. I am then going to give the student at least half of the class to complete their problem sets, as well as ask questions for problems they are struggling with.
When a student feels that they have successfully completed an assignment, then they will bring it to myself, or my TA, to be graded. If the student has not gotten 80% of the questions correct, they will be asked to go back and redo the assignment. When the student has successfully met the 80% criteria, then they will be given a quiz on that assignment. Each quiz must be completed in class, and will be graded as an individual assessment. Most importantly, THE PROBLEM SET MAY BE USED ON THE QUIZ!
Each student is allowed to work at their own pace, knowing they have four weeks to complete the eleven problem sets and quizzes. Students should keep ALL notes and problem sets, as these notes will be allowed on the final.
Hopefully, the students take advantage of this as a fun, and more relaxed way of preparing for the final. I will be having them bring their textbooks to class, so they can either carry them back and forth, or use the online textbook at home. (see back of page for login information.) Please let me know at mrlacaille@yahoo.com if there are any questions or concerns.
